Palmer's Passages

And so it begins. I have been sending various "Palmer Updates" to folks via email, but I thought it was about time to get fancy. I figure that this way I can keep folks up-to-date on the happenings of my crazy life, without sending old-fashioned mass emails. I hope you enjoy my updates, random comments, strange sense of humor, and delightful pictures. It is my hope that Palmer's Passages will cure all known diseases, end world hunger, and bring back "Animaniacs". Enjoy.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

Guten Tag meine freunde!

I realized that it has been far too long since I have written a post, so it is about time that I do something about it!

I am currently sitting on a Deutsche Bahn train from Munich to Heidelberg. It has been 6 years since I’ve been on one of these trains and it is nice to be back. The scenery is amazing and it is cool to see the old sights once again; I especially look forward to rolling into Heidelberg Hauptbanhof, a sight that always made me feel at home when I was a student there.

Things are going well out here in Deutschland. The itinerary for the Once Upon a Fairytale tour is awesome and it is turning out to be a wonderful season indeed. Sure, there are things I miss about Ireland (and home), but it is nice to be a part of creating a new trip again and in such a great country.

I do miss my old Heidelberg homestead and the 50 people that once accompanied Moore Haus. While it is cool to be back in Heidelberg, it isn’t the same without the people I called ‘family” for a year right beside me. The year I spent in Moore Haus was truly a special year and it is cool to pass by the Haus every week when we visit the ol’ Heidelberg Schloss. At least when I visit the castle this time, I’m not being chased away by a guard yelling “Verboten!” Not YET anyway...

One of the biggest updates in my life (at least in my eyes) is that I have begun teaching myself to play the guitar. I was always envious of those who could strum away on the ol’ guitar and I determined that if I were to ever play the thing, I would have to buy one. In January I bought a nice, shiny, black beginner guitar (her name is Laquisha) and I now know the wonder of calices.

I did have to leave Laquisha behind in CA (with everything else of mine in a storage unit, as I had to say “farewell” to my apartment in Santa Monica), but found a new companion in Munich. He is a natural brown guitar and his name is Bruno (an ode to Bruno Lerner, one of my unique professors in Heidelberg). He is quite the traveler and a nice pal to have.

As I mentioned, I did part ways with my apartment in Santa Monica. It seemed wise to put everything in storage instead of paying so much rent for a place I wouldn’t see at all this summer. I do plan to move back to Santa Monica in August/September, and hopefully I’ll be able to find something in my price range. We shall see.

Well, I shan’t bore you any further. Know that I am alive and well. I did spend five days in a shady hotel in Munich. It was by the train station, near half a dozen sex shops, my room was the size of a cubicle, and it was located in the Turkish quarter. Last night, Turkey won the soccer game against Switzerland and an impromptu parade of car-honkers and loud Turkish music occurred for two hours outside my window until about 1am. Good times indeed.

Here’s to a great summer for us all!

Many blessings,

Palmer

P.S. Many pics to come!
