Palmer's Passages

And so it begins. I have been sending various "Palmer Updates" to folks via email, but I thought it was about time to get fancy. I figure that this way I can keep folks up-to-date on the happenings of my crazy life, without sending old-fashioned mass emails. I hope you enjoy my updates, random comments, strange sense of humor, and delightful pictures. It is my hope that Palmer's Passages will cure all known diseases, end world hunger, and bring back "Animaniacs". Enjoy.

Office Space

TPS Reports, Michael Bolton, faulty fax machines, and birthday cake. These things remind me of the classic movie, Office Space...and my newest gig.

On Monday, I began a 5-week job as a Talent Coordinator for the American Music Awards. I've worked a many award shows, but never for this long. I've been working out of Dick Clark Productions in West Hollywood and have really enjoyed the gig thus far.

It's odd having a "normal" job for a change. I'm not telling the story of how Aladdin and Jasmine fell in love, I'm not a talking trash can, I'm not wearing a costume, and I'm not slapping green paint on my face. Instead, I'm reading/sending emails, creating Excel documents, receiving faxes, and making phone calls. My job is to book the travel for the performers and presenters for this year's show and it actually is a pretty cool job.

Now that I have a 10-6 job (as temporary as it is) I feel I can relate to the characters of Office Space. The fax machine acts up on occasion, I've had to dress nice, I have a cool stapler. we passed around cake for someone's birthday on Wednesday (I think everyone got a piece), I've heard a Michael Bolton song on the radio, and the forms I create must be in the proper format...I even got a memo on my first day. There has yet to exist a conversation about "flare" though. :)

For those thinking, "he's gone astray..." or "what about his dream?" or "what is Office Space?" - I have a response. The dream still continues, which is why this gig is only five weeks. I took out my first loan last week and I am in the process of putting together my VO demo (hallelujah). For those who've read the book, The Alchemist, this gig is my version of the crystal shop. I will make some money, learn some things, help the show be a success, and move on towards my "personal legend!"

I hope you all have a great Halloween and next time I post something, it will include some lovely (and embarrassing) pics of my Halloween costume(s). I apologize in advance.

Blessings,

Palmer
